Question Recurring Mildew/Fungus

I have some flowers (don't know the last name) that bloom like daises and have narrow green leaves (small bushlike). I have them in an area to keep them out of the full sun (can be scourching hot here), but they keep getting a powdery mildew. Topical sprays clear it up temporarily, but it always comes back.

Is there a soil additive or something to prevent powdery mildew that I can use once so I don't have to keep spraying my plants?

Firstly, welcome to our community, Chuck

Powdery mildew is a common problem with several varieties of daisy. There is no easy cure though. One thing that can help is by making sure that the affected plant isn't overcrowded, give it plenty of air circulation from soil level upwards. The air will help stop the mildew from forming so quickly. Also when watering, avoid overhead watering in the afternoon or evening as that can be held by the foliage and lead to mildew buildup. If the problem is a severe one, then chemical fungicide sprays are the only answer, use them sparingly and of a type that would normally be used in greenhouses where humidity is often a cause of this blight on chysanthemums etc. These chemicals are usually labeled thiophanate-methyl, triforine, and propiconizole.

I hope that helps the problem for you Hedgie
